Sometimes our customers in Northern Virginia communities such as Annandale, Great Falls and Burke ask us about natural ways to get rid of mold and mildew. Here are a few tips you might try:
Tea Tree Oil Recipe: Use 2 cups of water and 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil. You can get tea tree oil online or at local health stores. Tea tree oil can be expensive but it is extremely effective in cleaning mold naturally and you only have to use a little. Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle and mix. Spray this mixture on moldy areas and let it sit. The smell of tea tree oil can be strong but it will fade after a few days. Do not rinse and let the mixture do its job.
The Vinegar Method -- This recipe involves just straight vinegar. Vinegar by itself is also an effective natural mold remover reportedly killing 82% of the mold. Use white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle and spray on moldy areas. Let the vinegar sit on the area. The strong smell will fade in a few hours.
Baking Soda -- Getting rid of mold in carpet is tough because carpets have the natural tendencies to soak up dirt and moisture. So make sure to routinely dust your carpet with baking soda. Baking soda has the ability to neutralize acid and bases and is also very absorbent, which soaks up the unpleasant smell impressively.
