Clean, Dry and Airy - The Formula For Mold Prevention In Your Northern Virginia Home

Mold is a nasty little fungus that can cause major problems in your Washington DC area home, and mold prevention is the best way to keep it in check. Using these mold prevention tips, you can reduce the likelihood of mold growth in all areas of your home.

Mold prevention tip #1: Keep everything clean in your Adamstown, MD home. Closets, dresser drawers, basements and all other places that are dark and damp should be kept as clean and clutter free as possible. Damp junk in the basement or a grimy wall behind the refrigerator can provide enough food for mold and mildew to start growing — especially when moisture is present.

Mold prevention tip #2: Eliminate moisture. Mold and mildew need moisture to grow, so eliminating the moisture may eliminate your mold problem. Cooking, bathing and laundering clothes in areas without proper ventilation adds three gallons of water to the air in your Burke, VA home. Remove the excess moisture with a dehumidifier and open windows and doors when possible.

Mold prevention tip #3: Keep the air moving throughout all areas of your Knoxville, MD home — especially in locations where mold could thrive. By using exhaust fans, open windows and even an electric fan circulating air in the home, you can drastically reduce the amount of mold in your home through simple improved air flow. Clothes in closets should always be loosely hung up so air can circulate as well.
